LISTENING WITH WINAMP
The instructions on this page show how to configure Winamp 5 to listen to YOUR INTERNET RADIO and how to display
the YOUR INTERNET RADIO web pages in Winamp 5 while you are listening.
The Winamp instructions on this page are easy to follow and pictures are included to make it
easier. You can get it all done in a few minutes. This is stuff that you do just once, then you
never have to do it again!
The instructions here are for Winamp version 5, which is the current version of Winamp.
DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL WINAMP 5
If you don't have Winamp 5, click
here to download the free full version of Winamp 5!
After the download is completed, double-click on the downloaded file to install Winamp.
CONFIGURATION SETTINGS FOR WINAMP 5
Now there's a little bit of Winamp configuration to do....
Open Winamp, and then open Winamp's preferences. You can do that by making Winamp your active
window, and then using the keyboard combo of CTRL P. Here's what the Winamp Preferences window looks like:
In the Winamp Preferences window: On the left side of the window, locate and select "File Types". Then
in the main section of the window, be sure that Winamp is set as your default player for "pls" files. The
following picture illustrates and describes an easy way to accomplish this.
Click the Close button on the Winamp Preferences window. You are now ready to use Winamp as your player
for YOUR INTERNET RADIO.
TUNE IN TO YOUR INTERNET RADIO
Now that you have Winamp 5 installed and Winamp 5 is your default player for .pls files, you're ready to
listen to YOUR INTERENT RADIO.
Click here to go to my TUNE IN page. When you arrive there, click on the large Winamp logo to begin
listening to YOUR INTERNET RADIO. If Winamp 5 is your default player for .pls files, as it should be if
you configured everything properly, YOUR INTERNET RADIO will open in Winamp 5 and begin playing.
LOADING THE YOUR INTERNET RADIO SITE IN WINAMP'S BROWSER
The next task is to load the YOUR INTERNET RADIO web pages into Winamp's browser, so you can
interact with the site in Winamp instead of using a separate window for a browser.
On the Winamp menubar at the very top of the window, click on View and
in the menu that appears click on Web Browser (so that a check appears next to it).
Or, if you have a Winamp icon in your system tray, right-click on the icon and in the menu that appears click on Web Browser.
At this point, you have YOUR INTERNET RADIO playing in Winamp and you have the Winamp browser open. But the browser isn't
displaying the YOUR INTERNET RADIO website pages (yet).
The following picture shows what Winamp 5 looks like after you've tuned in to YOUR INTERNET RADIO and opened the Winamp broswer.
In the upper-middle section of the Winamp window you'll see station information. The bit that I've underlined in yellow
in the picture above is a link for the YOUR INTERNET RADIO "Now Playing" page. Click on that link and the YOUR INTERNET RADIO site
will load in the Winamp browser, as shown in the following picture:
